Hi, I'm Girish, a Post-doctoral fellow at the University of Hohenheim.

What am I interested in?

Having been trained as a cell and developmental biologist, I am interested in understanding how early embryonic development compares across various insect species. Focusing on flies, I want to address the questions on the effect of environmental fluctuations on embryo fitness, at a cell biological level.

What am I working on?

I am doing experiments with fly embryos, putting them at elevated temperature, and describing the defects we can see. One of the aims is also to test function of various genes to rescue these defects to make embryo development robust against temperature spikes.

I was interviewed recently in the context of the 'Pathway to Independence Program'. Here I talked about what drives me as a scientist, my view on how embryos are vulnerable to high temperatures, and what I hope to achieve in my future research group. You can read that interview here.

I also got the opportunity to present my work in the 'Development presents...' seminar series. Please see the adjoining video for the same. (I have tried to use simple language that should be suitable for Biology researchers. Apologies, if this is too specific due to bit of Developmental biology jargon. Please reach out if you have questions.)
